You can get this flag as:

Single-Sided or Double-Sided: Single-sided flags are printed on one side and bleed-through to the other side. See the tab on Back-Side Reverse for more information and pictures. Double-sided flags are printed on two different pieces of fabric and sewn together, with an extra piece of light-blocking fabric in the center. These flags read correctly from both sides. Please note: Because of the weight of this flag the width is 30 inches and not 36 inches like the one sided flags.

Flag only or Complete Kit: Use the drop-down if you need a pole and mounting kit to go with your custom flag.  We offer options for mounting in the ground (ground mount) or on a hard surface (flat mount). If you are ordering the flat mount kit, please note that we also offer Sandbag  and Water Bag, and Premium Water Bag options to use as weights.

NOTE: If you order the Custom Flag ONLY (no kit), you must have poles designed for use with this flag. We are not responsible for knowing if you have the correct poles for your application/use of the flag.  If you order the Custom Flag KIT, we will provide you with the correct pole set for your flag.

The first step in ordering a custom flag is to actually place the order. We can't start the production process without a paid order.

Step 1: Select your options.  If we are going to help you design your flag put in as much information in the comments section as you can. If you have a logo or picture you want us to use, upload it using the file upload option on the product page. We need high resolution images, so send the best image you have. If you have a choice send a vector file (the file will generally end in pdf, ai, or psd).

Step 2: Select the number of flags or kits you want.  NOTE: if you want multiple custom flags with different images you can select the total number of flags or kits you want, you don't have to have a separate product for each flag.

Step 3: Click on the ADD TO CART button.

If you don't have the images or instructions at this time, you can go through checkout and then email us at custom@vistaflags.com. You can also send questions, comments, images, and design instruction to our designers at custom@vistaflags.com

If you have the Adobe Photoshop™ or Illustrator™ application, you may choose to download the template that we have available and design the flag yourself. Illustrator™ users can open up the Photoshop™ file in Illustrator™ and work with it there.

For Single-Sided Custom Flags use this link.

For Double-Sided Custom Flags use this link.

Before sending your design file to  custom@vistaflags.com save it without layers in PDF format.  Please do not alter the template, except to add your design to it (or to reverse it). Please don't design on the safe layer. Your design should bleed to the edges. Since we use a CMYKcm compatible printer, you can design in RGB rather than CMYK, for optimal color choices.

WHAT IS A CUSTOM FEATHER BANNER FLAG?
A Custom Feather Banner flag is a handmade product (made in the USA). This includes large-scale digital printing and individual sewing. Custom Feather Banner flags can be printed with just about anything you want put on them.  It is very much like printing from your computer to a printer, except that we are printing on fabric.

PRODUCTION TIME
Average turnaround production time is 7 days AFTER the approved design is submitted to the printer, plus transit shipping time. We will not promise a custom flag order any earlier than this, however, if you need it faster please let us know and we will try to work with you.

GETTING STARTED
To start an order you’ll need to first purchase the custom flag. We do not do any design work without a paid order. Enter your design instructions into the COMMENTS box. This will include your color choices, your text message, any themes, etc. Any logos or graphics, as well as ALL custom flag related correspondence should be sent to:  custom@vistaflags.com. To preserve a "virtual paper trail", we communicate via email, ONLY.

WINDLESS VS FLUTTER
On our website we offer stock flags that are either windless or flutter style. Unless you specify otherwise we will design your flag as a windless flag. If you are unclear on the difference we have a video available that describes the differences between the two:
http://youtu.be/xje0-fyCfNIA

Flutter flag is a partial-sleeved flag, meaning that a few inches of the top of the flag does not have a pole sleeve insert. This allows the top end of the flag to flap in the breeze to catch the attention of your potential customer. If there is little or no wind, the top of the material will fold over itself.

A Windless flag is a full-sleeved flag, meaning that the sleeve insert is sewn to the full curve of the top of the flag. A Windless flag has less movement in the wind, but the entire length of the material at the top is held up and visible at all times.

SINGLE-SIDED vs DOUBLE-SIDED
Single-sided custom flags are printed on ONE side, yet are readable from both sides. The image bleeds through to the back of the flag and is the reverse image of the front.  This is typically not a problem for people reading the flag since most words can be easily read from their reverse.  We also offer double sided flag options, if you need your image and text to be readable from both sides equally well.

BLEED THROUGH
We get about 95% bleed-through with our digital printer, depending on color. The image is very readable on the backside.

SIZE
These Custom Feather Banner flags are 11.5 feet tall by 3 feet wide if single-sided and 11.5 feet tall by 2.5 feet wide if double-sided (because of the weight we have to make them slightly smaller).

WE DESIGN FOR YOU
We provide FREE design services for simple designs.

During checkout, enter your design instructions into the COMMENTS box that appears right before the payment section. Include your color/theme choices, your text message, etc. Include as much detail as you can about what you want. Logos and graphics need to be sent to:  custom@vistaflags.com. Images and logos must be vector graphics (usually file types ending in PDF or EPS) because we are going to enlarge them. There is no set-up fee and no color fee (these are digitally printed). The first draft and first revision of the design will be free. There will be a $15 charge for revisions after the initial one. Please be as specific as possible when requesting your flag design. Turn-around time on flag design is one to two days.  When we design a flag for you we will send you images for your final approval.  We will not print a flag without your written approval of the design. Unless you specify otherwise we will design your flag as a windless flag.

DESIGNING YOURSELF
If you have the Adobe Photoshop™ or Illustrator™ application, you may choose to download the template that we have available and design the flag yourself.  You can download the template and instructions for a Single-Sided Custom Feather Banner Flag by clicking here. Illustrator™ users can open up the Photoshop™ file in Illustrator™ and work with it there.

PROOF/PRINT DISCLAIMER
Prior to sending your design to print, we will send you a Screen Proof for your final approval. We will do this even if you have sent us a design, so there are no miscommunications.

Screen Proofs depict Design Layout, Text Accuracy & Image Placement, but will only ESTIMATE Color Matching or Color Density. We DO NOT guarantee that the Custom Printed Flag will match the color displayed on your Computer Monitor or Printer.  Fabric has a different density than paper (more porous so less ink can stick to it) so flags will look differently. We cannot match colors exactly.

PROOF APPROVALS
We will communicate with you via email. Since we need everything in writing, all correspondence concerning custom flags is done via email. Once we receive your email indicating a design as APPROVED, Vista Flags is released from ALL liabilities for any errors including, but not limited to: Grammar, Spelling, Color Matching, Size, Image Placement, Resolution, and Color Density. Custom flags are NOT returnable.

LIFE EXPECTANCY OF FLAG
If left out in the weather 24/7, Feather Banner flags will last an average of 4-6 months, depending on conditions. You will get longer life by taking them in at night and putting them up in the mornings, and by not flying them in high wind conditions (over 35 mph). Please take this information into consideration prior to purchasing.

COLOR MATCHING
While we try to match the colors as accurately as possible, a variety of things will alter the colors, some of which are beyond our control (currently) including humidity.  Inks respond differently to temperature (we put it through a heater) and can change from batch to batch.  If you are designing your own flag and it contains yellow, make it at pure as possible (100% Yellow - 0% everything else), slight percentages of other colors may turn the yellow green. A note about Red: We cannot get bright red because we have to mix Magenta and Yellow. For the best red use 5% Cyan, 100% Magenta, 90% Yellow, and 1% Black. Reds made up of 100% Magenta and 100% Yellow comes out red to the orange side. Custom flags are not returnable.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
The purpose of the flag is typically to get your message out to your potential customer as quickly and accurately as possible.  So keep the message simple. The more text is on the flag the harder it is for a customer to figure out what you do or sell. As much as possible make your main message vertical. The human mind has a great capacity to read the message vertically, even from the back side (reverse). Text and graphics that run sideways are easy to read from the front, but almost impossible to read from the back.

Check the readability of your flag based on where your customers are going to see your flag.  Use the image we send you (or you design) and see if which way the wind generally blows. We typically design the flag with the pole on the left side. But we can reverse that if that would make your flag backwards for the majority of the viewers. The curved side is the pole side. You want the pole side to face the direction of the wind.

BEFORE YOU BUY

1) Not all cities allow this type of advertising and custom flags are NOT returnable. Please check with your local authorities before purchasing to make sure you can display this type of advertising.
2) We are not responsible for knowing if you have the correct poles for your application/use of the flag.
3) Custom flags are not returnable. Please contact us before purchasing if you have any questions. We would rather have you satified with our products than make a quick profit from selling something that you didn't want or that won't work for you.

Thank you for considering Vista Flags for your custom flag needs.

The estimated daily cost of this form of outdoor advertising is 40 cents a day, making it one of the best flag banner advertising values available. So, not only is CUSTOM Feather Banner Flag (11.5 x 3 Feet) easy to set up and use CUSTOM-style feather flag is also one of the most economical advertising techniques available, especially for advertising outdoors.  Keeping your advertising flags looking their best by changing out your flags more often, keeps a fresh, bright presence and gives your location a highly professional impression, while attracting attention to your flag signage. So the total cost of this awesome form of outdoor advertising, a Vista Flags feather banner flag, is only about 40 cents per day! That is a great value for any kind of outdoor advertising!

Windless Feather Advertising Flags are preferred by most people because, unlike regular flags or our Flutter-style flags, Windless Feather Flags don't require wind to present your message. Our flag is at its best an any kind of weather and is perfect for using indoors. Flutter-style feather advertising flags are called Flutter because the sleeve doesn't got all the way to the end of the flags, like the sleeve on a windless-style does, so the last few inches (about a foot) is left to flutter in the wind. The flutter is very attractive (that is attracts attention), so for flags without messages they are by far the best. When considering solid color feather flags (like all-white feather flags for instance - which are great for wedding venues) consider purchasing flutter-style feather flags, because the purpose of the flags in that case is for the color and to make the venue more festive. Flutter-style feather flags do that with style! But flutter-style feather flags require wind to fully show their message. If there is no wind it will fold over a little bit onto the message. The positive side is that flutter feather flags are very light-weight so the slightest breeze catches them, and then they are at their attractive best.

We get a lot of questions about the name of the flags. We call our feather advertising flags either windless or flutter, depending on the way the sleeve is attached to the flag. Other people use different names like Blade flags, Tall flags, Flying Banners, Bowhead Banners, Windfeather Flags, Bow Flag, Wind Sail Sign, Windblade Flag and Flying Blade flags. Some refer to them as Swooper flags. Swooper Flags are equivalent to our Flutter-style flags as are Super flags. Most of our feather flags are 3 feet wide, where other vendors often limit the width to 2.5 feet or even 2 feet in some cases. The 3 foot wide feather flags, especially at 11-12 feet tall look so much better, and you are getting more square footage of advertising area.

We have never been fans of teardrop-style flags and while they are technically feather flags they don't provide enough advertising area to justify their existence. Teardrop flags are cute though.

Feather advertising flags are called feather because of their shape. Feather advertising flags, whether you prefer windless or flutter style, are a great advertising product for outside and even for inside, at a great price.

Our standard custom flag is a windless-style flag, but you can ask that we make it as a flutter flag if you desire.

Windless Versus Flutter Image

Most of our flags are printed on one side and the ink "bleeds through" the fabric so the image is visible on the back side.  Each printing type (digital or screen) gets varying amounts of ink through.  Screen printed flags tend to be very bright on the back side of the flag while digitally printed flags will vary on the amount of penetration by color. While exact penetration percentages are really just guesses, we calculate we generally get 95% bleed through on screen printed (most of our stock flags) and 85-95% on our digitally printed flags, which would include our custom flags, our premium flags and a few of our stock designs.

Because the flags are printed on one side, the back side is reversed.  This is generally not an issue for readability, but it is the reason we generally run our main message vertically, because vertical lettering is fairly easy to read in the reverse. It is the easiest to read from either side, followed by horizontal print.  Horizontal lettering running top to bottom (or bottom to top) is very easily read on the front side, but the reverse side is almost impossible to read.  Our minds simply go in that direction. If you need to run your message from bottom to top consider one of our two-sided Custom Flags. They are very readable from both sides.

Here is an example of bleed through and back side reverse that applies to most of our flags.

Feather Flag Backside Reverse and Bleed Through

If you are purchasing this flag as a replacement flag for our flag kit here are the steps you will need to follow. If you are purchasing it as kit, scroll down and follow the kit instructions below.

Should take about 3-5 minutes tops.

1) Remove the little black clip from the top of the pole.  Sometimes these get hidden in the sleeve, but it should be there.  It is probably going to be on there tight, so you may have to pull hard. Keep the clip to put on the new flag after you have installed it. We try to send a new one out with every replacement flag.

2) Remove the old flag from the pole by sliding it off the pole.  The pole comes apart in sections so try not to separate the sections while pulling off the flag. It they do come apart it isn't a problem, but it can be harder to get the little rascals out of the flag sleeve. It helps to have two people work together on this, but I have done it many times by myself.

3) Put all the pieces of the pole back together if they have come apart.

4) Find the sleeve opening on the new flag.  One side will be closed and one open.

5) Slide the flag pole up the sleeve until it gets to the very end.

6) Put the black clip at the top of the pole just behind the black tip piece.

7) Put the whole thing back on the mount.

8) Step back and admire your new flag!

Installing a KIT

Putting together this flag kit/bundle should take about 3-5 minutes tops.

1) Remove the little black clip from the top of the pole.  This is located near the bright stickers that say "do not discard black clamp."  It is probably going to be on there tight, so you may have to pull hard. Keep the black clamp to put on the flag after you have installed it. It will go about the same place on the pole as you took it off; over the flag sleeve and as close to the top as it will fit.

2) Find the Ground Mount Stake. This will be either orange in color or silver depending on where we get them. You will need a large hammer for this part. Locate a suitable location for your flag. Grass or turf works best. If your ground is hard, soften it with water before hammering the stake in. Here are some considerations:

  • The flag will need a clear 3 foot radius from ground mount, so keep it away from bushes, signs, tree limbs, ect. It is fabric, so if it snags on things it will tear.
  • Don't put your ground mount stake near your sprinkler lines. You don't want to create a geyser.
  • Try to keep it ground mount stake as vertical as possible. These flags look their best when the pole is straight up and down.
  • The flags, when put on the 15 foot pole need about 14 feet of clearance overhead.

3) Assemble the pole. The pole is in sections.  There are two fiberglass pieces, these go together at the top so the pole can take the shape of the flag sleeve. The thinner piece goes into the larger piece at the top. These two pieces will go into the aluminum pieces. One of the aluminum pole pieces is dimpled so it can fit into the other pole piece. It doesn't matter which end goes up. Put the fiberglass piece with the black end into the aluminum pole and you have put together the pole.

4) Find the sleeve opening on the new flag.  One end will be closed and one open.

5) Slide the flag pole up the sleeve until it gets to the very end.

6) Put the black clip at the top of the pole just behind the black tip piece. (In the wind the end of the fiberglass pole will vibrate, hitting the sleeve and creating a hole. With the clip/clamp we prevent that by holding the pole against the sleeve.)

7) Put the whole thing over the top of the mount.

The ground mount has a piece of PVC which goes into the flag pole at the bottom. The PVC's job is to keep the pole from hitting the top of the ground mount. This protects the pole from being cut by the ground mount, should you need to have hit it hard enough to make it mushroom. The PVC piece has some foam in it to help keep it on the stake during shipping and use.  Over time that foam may be flattened or come unglued.  That is not a problem, since the main issue is that the PVC remain available to protect the pole.
